This meditation was part of Infocession, a workshop where we explored skills for thinking, feeling and questioning what it means to live in a virtual world. This meditation can help you visualize just how much data you generate as you use computers in your daily life.
After you complete this meditation, feel free to journal about the thoughts, feelings, curiosities, etc. that emerge. What comes up for you? Drop a comment to let me know.
Infocession was such a treat. It marks the first time I’ve publicly shared my new-ish research in computing, information exchange, and spiritual practice. Of course, I’m always asking what it means to hold onto our will to know ourselves, one another, and the world — and the questions are already taking me into exciting new places. Watch this space…
That was such an interesting experience! Thanks for the meditation sib. Was interesting to see this offering right after watching a reel that explains how our phones have software that continues to collect data on us, e.g sound, location even when they're off and this cannot be switched off by the average user.
Thank you so much for this!
I had such an interesting experience of feeling the connectivity and spaciousness of a meditation, but also in the back of my head was a thought of how ephemeral all of the data is, how it is stored in data centers and on servers I cannot access directly access, that large tech companies put me in buckets based on this data, and that my digital footprint might have impacts I can't foresee.
Thank you again for the opportunity to reflect!
